James "Jamie" Overstreet was born October 29, 1963, in Queens, New York, to James and Vera Overstreet. He was raised in Rockaway, New York, and lived in Redfern, Arverne, and Inwood, Long Island.
James was educated in the New York City Public Schools and attended P.S 197, J.H.S 198, and Beach Channel H.S.
James worked for many years as a Porter for the Hartman Y and over 27 years at JASA. Also, he was an avid music lover who was a self-taught musician. He composed instrumental music using his keyboard and drum machine. James went by the name "DJ Jamez" and was an expert in mixed tapes.
James passed this life on October 8, 2021, after a long battle with cancer. He is preceded in death by his father, James Overstreet; mother Vera Overstreet; brother Daryl Overstreet; sister Alberta Overstreet; grandmothers Alberta Mims and Leila Cann.
James leaves to cherish his memories: his daughter Shana Overstreet, his son James Ian Overstreet, his wife Tohtagul "Julia" Overstreet, sister Sandra Proto and brother-in-law Robert Proto of Valley Stream, New York, sister Carmencita Jones of Chicago, Illinois, nieces Alberta, Carlysia, Jamesha, Keosha, Nicole, nephews Antwione and Tre'shaun, aunts Mary Overstreet, Chester Backus, Shawn Knight, and many cousins and good friends.
