A reflection of our beloved, Brenda Elizabeth Harry, who was born on October 19, 1945. She was the first child born to her late parents, Daphne Douglas and Randolph Chapman. She was born in 28 Village, West Coast Berbice, Guyana.
Brenda was the first of her family to immigrate to the United States in 1969 when she was only 24 years old. Brenda worked tirelessly as a live-in nanny in order to secure a work visa. Due to her hard work, she was able to bring her husband, Dennis Harry, mother, maternal sisters and brothers, and her husband’s family to America all due to her dedication and love of her family. Brenda had many pet names: Sister Brenda, Sister B, and Babada (Ba-bah-dah) to name a few. Brenda worked for 25 years as an administrative assistant for MetLife Insurance Company before retiring in 1999. Even retirement could not stop Brenda who then took on odd jobs with St. John’s Hospital, QVC, and a podiatrist (puh-die-a-trist) in order to keep herself busy.
Brenda was a gentle and loving soul who was a friend to all. Anyone who knew her was touched by her kindness, humor, and mild temperament. She was the matriarch of the family and always a source of positivity. She will be missed more than words can say.
Brenda was predeceased by her mother, Daphne Douglas, her father Randolph Chapman, and her sister, Nicole Chapman.
Brenda leaves to mourn and honor her memories, her loving husband, Dennis, two children: Alexis and John, her sisters Laverne, Denise, Suzette, and Roxanne, her brothers Bernel, Oswald, Sherwin, and Clyde, her son-in-law Steven, her grandchildren and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, good friends, and many others.
